Kickstarting a mini-series on Electric Vehicles with Jimmy Hirst’s brief report on Noosa’s first electric vehicle expo.
The very first Noosa Electric Vehicle Expo was celebrated with an incredible turnout on a perfect May autumn day on the Sunshine Coast.
The inaugural event was held on Saturday 12 May 2018 and organiser and local environmentalist Vivien Griffin was overwhelmed, not only by the fantastic turnout of exhibitors but a much bigger than anticipated turnout from the public and members of Noosa Council.
Supported by the dedicated crew of ZEN (Zero Emissions Noosa), a community group presided over by organiser Vivien Griffin, whose mission is to help bring to reality a plan to reduce emissions and have Noosa totally self-sufficient by the year 2026.
Mark Bailey, QLD Minister for Transport, opened the event. Tony Wellington (Lord Mayor), Cr Frank Wilkie (Deputy Mayor), Cr Ingrid Jackson, Cr Brian Stockwell and Cr Jess Glasgow were all in attendance for the day, along with Sandy Bolton State MP for Noosa.
On display were the popular Tesla Electric Cars from enthusiastic owners, to Ecotekk Electric Bicycles, Electric Scooters, E-Skateboards, Segways and right through to solar powered outboard motors + more, and even a solar-powered car!
The success of this first event foretells talk of it returning again in May 2019 and hopes are to turn this into an annual event until the objective of “Zero Emissions for Noosa” by the Year 2026 is achieved – and then some!
