We recently joined many Noosa residents at a screening of 2040 organised by Peregian Digital Hub start-up earth tech. We discussed the movie into the night and reflected on whether we really can engineer our way out of this mess humans have created.

With Council elections approaching, it seems like the perfect time to ask what sort of future Noosa’s most eminent thinkers believe we are heading for. What does the hustle and bustle of Noosa 2040 look like? What kind of people will be here, what will they do for a living, who will be in charge?

Noosa’s futures

Noosa famously has great aspirations in terms of conservation, building heights, roundabouts, signage and reducing emissions to zero, but beyond that the future is ill-defined. How will we achieve zero emissions? What are the consequences of the climate change emergency declaration? How will the population cap play out on housing affordability and our social fabric? How will the strong population growth to our south impact on Noosa? How will we cope with a changing climate?

If you know Noosa well and the key issues this community faces, take a stab and write a future scenario for Noosa. Choose any viewpoint you like. You could write from a wishful perspective, a realistic, data backed perspective, present a stark warning or take a poetic flight of fancy.

Every post we’ll select to be published will win a little goodie bag from the No.1 Creative Agency, but the main thing is the shared the excitement to see how reality will play out against everyone’s and your own projection.

It’s a rolling project and we are looking forward to see how these different futures match up, if we get to understand common goals, dreams and fears. It might help us see warning signs or perhaps change actions. Perhaps it might inform our political decisions as voters, influencers or representatives.

So, go on! What does your 2040 look like?

How will Noosa have changed either realistically or in your best dreams or worst nightmares?

Keep it short, go in depth or wow us with cartoons, videos or other creative expressions.
