Having lived in Europe where cycling was the default and normal option for most daily activities, I am very excited about Cycle Noosa and how it can help make Noosa a better place through lower emissions, reduced congestion and a more wholesome way of life.

As a committee member of Peregian Family and Friends, a community organisation which represents the whole Peregian community across both Council Shires and State boundaries, we are keen to connect school children in Noosa Shire with their schools across the border, while at the same time providing a congestion busting way to bring in the wider Peregian population to Peregian Beach on the weekends to shop, dine and swim at the beach.

We have been working with State MPs and local Councillors across both the Noosa and Sunshine Coast boundaries to review options for getting kids in Noosa Shire across to school in Peregian Springs and Breeze, and for helping the wider Peregian community access the shops, cafes and beach easily without needing to bring their cars.

This project will require collaboration across both the Noosa and Sunshine Coast Shires and also across Noosa and Ninderry State boundaries, which has already commenced with good levels of support from all parties.

There are many different options below, all have their constraints and benefits. I’m interested to listen to your opinions on the options!

  1. I’m sure all the options would have a certain amount of merit to be formalised. My question is, who is the driving force between ensuring collaboration happens between all parties? I can imagine this task needs a dedicated amount of project management work to get it going. Have any planning studies been produced to document the various human factors in the different scenarios?

    • Hi Iina, Peregian Family and Friends have made contact with MPs from both Noosa and Ninderry, and also Councillors from both Noosa and SCRC. You are right, it is a big job, and going slowly as the current project management resources are all volunteers! We are hoping the collaboration with Cycle Noosa will give us additional visbility and a wider audience to attract more government support for investigating the options. There have been no planning studies to date that I know about. Thank you for your comments! Leigh
